Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I really don't understand why you enforce people to use the Microsoft store to install the HP Smart App. Either that or why it's impossible to install the printer using its local IP.

The MS store is blacklisted (blocked) on my system, so it didn't connect. I removed the lock and tried again. This time it did connect and downloaded the app, but got the error 0x80070001. Basically useless info (incorrect function):

ProductId: 9WZDNCRFHWLH
Error Code: Función incorrecta.
Function: ItemStatusChanged
Source: D:\a\_work\1\s\src\Shell\WinStore.App\Acquisition\WindowsUpdateInstaller.cs (918)

Error encountered during install Item = 9WZDNCRFHWLH   Progress Stage = DownloadingProduct
Error: Función incorrecta.
Función: InstallQueue2::NotifyError
Origen: onecoreuap\enduser\winstore\installservice\libqueue2\installqueue2.cpp (2041)

Download and Install Failed at Stage: Downloading
Error: Función incorrecta.
Función: UWAInstallWork::DoWork
Origen: onecoreuap\enduser\winstore\installservice\lib\uwainstallwork.cpp (1289)

BTW, I configured the printer using my tablet, because you don't want me to use Windows (I guess because your software doesn't install, but who knows).

I finally ended up using a USB cable to print from Windows, but I actually (for once in my life) wanted to use WiFi.

Kind of off-topic, but EU law stipulates that you must give the consumer a minimum 2-year guarantee. It would be nice if you don't ask me to make "use" of certain services, or only use the device with your cartridges to not only get 1 year guarantee.

I'm allowed by law to use the cartridge I feel like, and I will have a 2-year guarantee even if I don't share anything with you. Please don't mislead people.

And let me finish with a suggestion. You should align headers before printing the first time. Not after printing your test page, a page from Windows and making a copy using the printer. I love the header alignment, but was surprised when you suddenly started printing another page.

Which of those steps will allow me to use the printer from Windows with Wi-Fi?

My printer is connected to my network, else I wouldn't have been able to connect using my tablet.

Is the HP Smart app required to print using Wi-Fi? As the Windows Store doesn't install it and there doesn't seem to be an alternative download (and obviously there's no CD/DVD) it just won't work?

It's just ridiculous that you must use the Windows store to use a wireless printer. Seriously, there's no alternative download? Did nobody take it from the store and upload it somewhere else?

OK, so I managed to download it from here: http://tlu.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/79139fa5-5e8e-4b47-89bb-41201b7af...

Seems great, right? Next problem: HP "smart" is anything but smart. When starting the App it says that I'm not connected to Internet.

FIX:

I edited the Windows Service configuration and the registry to allow Windows / HP to detect the local DNS service:

  • On Windows 10 Home use the Registry Editor to set the "UseGlobalDns" value to 1 (REG_DWORD) in the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator" registry key.
  • Configure the Network Location Awareness Windows service startup type as "Automatic (Delayed Start)".

Not used, but may be useful for someone else: On Windows 10 Professional or Enterprise use the Local Group Policy Editor to enable the "Specify global DNS" setting in "Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Network Connectivity Status Indicator".

Obviously this was just the start. Windows still doesn't find a wireless printer. I managed to send a document to HP Smart App, but nothing has been printed.
