Having worked in IT for over 20 years I've seen plenty of examples of senior management ideas flying in the face of real-world practicalities and logic; a recent experience however, has been so frustrating it has driven me to sign up to this community in the hope that the person, whose idea this was, finds and reads the following.
A customer (my business has over 1000 on its books) asked for a recommendation as to a home printer, as I've done for many years, I suggested a B+W laser from HP, so he bought a M209dwe. He didn't want to sign up for any account with HP to use his printer so we set about trying to setup the device only to be blocked via WiFi, USB and ethernet by HP Smart software intervening at every attempt. When we eventually gave in to this invasive app it consistently generated errors and failed to allow us to print. In short, after MANY hours, no number of factory resets or new HP Smart account setups would allow us to use the hardware, so it has been packaged and sent back to the seller.
I will never recommend another HP printer to any of my customers, not because of one problem device, but because someone thinks it appropriate to forcibly introduce a marketing app into the purchasing experience.

I only wish I'd read the above beforehand.
