So I have two HP 8130 series printers - an 8135e and an 8139e.  One's at home.  One's at work.  One's on instant ink.  One is not.

They've both been assigned the same names in HPSmart - "HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e All-in-One series

so yeah - which is which?  I saw the work-around on another post - "look at the serial number."  That's just stupid/cumbersome/time consuming.  We really can't create unique names to differentiate our products?  I mean I have TWO HP products which is likely more than most.  I can rename them in windows (really important!), but the manufacturer of the product who created the software says, "sorry."

Please tell me, HP's been working on a reasonable software solution.

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Superb description and stupendous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that.  😊

I understand your concern, HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e or 8139e all fall under the same HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e All-in-One Printer series.

Due to geographical difference in places where are shipped to and sold from the name differs.

Yes, when you have 2 identical printer there might arise few confisuion, to avoid that you may rename the printer in HP Smart App.

Open HP Smart

Click Settings

Select Add / Set Up a Printer

Under Options

Select Rename My Printer

Enter the name of the printer as you want to see it

Click Save

Go back to the main menu
