HP Smart
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After a windows update the controls in the software HP Smart became just rectangles, the words and icons are blank. I have reinstalled the software with the same result. What is the fix? the software is unusable as it is.

I suggest you uninstall the Software run the SFC Scan to fix any Windows issue and then reinstall the HP Smart App

If the issue persists please create a new User Account with Admin rights and check if the HP Smart App works in the new Profile

I not only uninstalled, I physically removed the directories HP left on the system.

Then I did a reboot to clear out any remnants  of the program that might have been in memory.

Went to the HP site and installed the drivers and software (HP Printer Assistant).

On running the install the software could not connect to the printer except by IP address but that was no issue to me.

On running the software it found several issues that it reported as fixed.

Printing and scanning works fine using the HP Printer Assistant.

Now I reinstall HP Smart: Same as before, works fine but can't read any controls. they still show up as blank rectangles.

(I know it works because I have HP Smart on another Windows 10 PC and it is fine there.

I used the good one to know what to click on the bad one. 🙂

Since I have a way to scan and print with the assistant I am writing off HP Smart as HP Dumb for the time being.

Thanks for the suggestions (Sincerely), I may try them at some point when I have a few hours to spare.

Thank you for the detailed response. Try creating a new user account on the PC in your leisure time as stated in the above post and check if the issue persists.
