HP Officejet Pro 9125

I just purchased an HP Officejet Pro 9125e to replace my failed 8120e that was 5 years old. I'm trying to install the printer using HP Smart but when I open the app on my MacBook it force closes with a full error report every time. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it twice, restarted the printer and my MacBook twice, but it's still happening. Thank you in advance for any help!

@juliagoc, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Smart App Crashing on MacBook!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If the HP Smart app is force quitting on your MacBook when trying to set up your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e, here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Check System Requirements: Ensure that your MacBook meets the system requirements for the HP Smart app. The app needs macOS 10.13 or later.

Update macOS: Ensure that your MacBook is running the latest version of macOS. Sometimes app compatibility issues are resolved with a macOS update.

Update the HP Smart App: Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app from the App Store.

Permissions: Ensure that the app has the necessary permissions. You can check this in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy.

Clear Previous Installations:

  • Navigate to your Finder.
  • Go to Applications.
  • Locate the HP Smart app and remove it.
  • Next, go to Library > Application Support and from there, remove any HP Smart folders.
  • Also, check Library > Preferences for any HP Smart preference files and delete them.

Install the App Again:

  • Download the latest version of the HP Smart app from the App Store.
  • Reinstall the app and attempt to set up your printer again.

Check Compatibility: Ensure the printer model HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e is compatible with the HP Smart app.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
