In the past I have always used the HP Smart Print option when, printing Labels for my store. This option has always been listed in settings under printers and devices almost like its own printer. However, over the weekend the HP Smart Print option was not available, I have reset everything in every way I can: reset the printer and pc, removed the printer from the pc, removed the printer from the HP app, and uninstalled and reinstalled the HP app. I'm not sure what else I can do to get this option back. Everything I have found said it should be automatically added back, but it has not happened yet. Any help or input would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi @DonnellyD_GGG

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If HP Smart Print has disappeared from your printer list, it may be due to a recent Windows or HP Smart update that removed or disabled the virtual printer.

You can try reinstalling it manually using the steps below.

Steps to restore HP Smart Print as a virtual printer

Check for Windows updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.
  • Restart your PC after updates complete.

Reinstall HP Smart Print manually

  • HP Smart Print is a browser-based plugin and may no longer install automatically.
  • Visit the HP Smart Print download page and follow the instructions to reinstall the plugin.

Verify HP Smart is fully updated

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Click the gear icon (Settings) > About and ensure you’re running the latest version.
  • If not, download the latest version from the HP Smart app page.

Add HP Smart Print manually as a printer

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Add a printer or scanner.
  • Wait for detection. If HP Smart Print doesn’t appear, click “The printer that I want isn’t listed”.
  • Choose Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
  • Select Use an existing port > LPT1 or FILE: (Print to File).
  • Choose HP as manufacturer and look for HP Smart Print in the list. If missing, click Windows Update to refresh the driver list.

Use HP Smart’s Print Anywhere feature

  • If Smart Print isn’t restored, you can still print labels using HP Smart’s Print Anywhere feature.
  • Open HP Smart > Add your printer > Use the Shortcuts or Print Documents feature to print labels directly.

Let me know your printer model and Windows version if you’d like help tailoring these steps further.
