Microsoft Windows 11

On a home WiFi network, we have a wireless printer that is connected and active.   I can print to it from aps or from HP Smart on my Windows 10 system.   "HP Smart Printing" appears as a print destination on that system and that's what I use in an app such as Word.

Installing HP Smart on a separate Windows 11 system, the printer is seen and a printer "device" with the model and network name is created in Windows 11 settings.   However, any job sent to that destination appears to be queueing, but quickly disappears and nothing prints.  And "HP Smart Printing" is not created as a pseudo-device to use for printing.   But I can initiate the demo page from HP Smart so obviously the Windows 11 system and the printer are talking.

Has anybody else seen this problem?   Should "HP Smart Printing" be set up on Windows 11 if the installation went correctly?  I'm letting the HP Smart installation choose the driver.

Hi @adji10k,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for choosing HP. We understand you're experiencing a printing issue from your Windows 11 system using the HP OfficeJet 3830 on a home wireless network. Based on your description, the printer is visible and prints a test/demo page via HP Smart, but regular print jobs disappear or do not complete, and “HP Smart Printing” is not available as a print destination.

Step 1: Remove All Existing HP Drivers

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners
  2. Click on the HP OfficeJet 3830 > Remove device
  3. Press Win + R, type printui /s /t2 and remove any HP OfficeJet 3830 print queues left over

Step 2: Reinstall HP Smart Correctly

  1. Go to the Microsoft Store and install the latest HP Smart app
  2. Open HP Smart > Add Printer > Select your OfficeJet 3830
  3. If prompted to “Enable Printing Services” or “Install Advanced Features”, allow it

This ensures the HP Smart Print driver (cloud-based) is registered and added under your Windows print devices.

Step 3: Check for “HP Smart Printing” in Print Destinations

  • Open Word or any app > Print
  • Look for a device like HP [Model Name] (HP Smart) or HP Smart Printing
  • If it's still missing, return to HP Smart > Printer Settings > Check for a “Finish Setup” option

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks Vikram.   This did solve the issue.   It makes sense that it was a print queue problem.   In fact, before I applied your steps, I opened the print queue from Settings so I could watch it, and then submitted a print job.   The file was visible in the queue for about a second and then would disappear without ever getting sent to the printer.

Good work and clear description of the steps.

Hi @adji10k,

You're very welcome! I'm glad to hear the issue is resolved and that the explanation helped clarify what was going on with the print queue. Monitoring the queue like you did is a smart move—it’s a great way to confirm whether the system is handing off jobs correctly.

If anything else comes up—printing, scanning, or setup-related—feel free to reach out. Always happy to help!
