HELP!

Up until about a week ago my HP Smart app worked just fine. I was able to scan, see how much ink is left, and other function. Now, my app screen has gone blank. I've looked at other similar conversations and tried doing whatever fixes they've suggested. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart App. I've unplugged my printer and plugged it back in.

And still, when I open up HP Smart all I get is a blank screen. How can I get the app back up and running. Please advise at your earliest convenience. Thanks.

PS - I have Microsoft 11 and my printer is an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978.

Welcome to the HP Community --

A week ago, this type of issue might have been more straight forward -

Today, perhaps not-so-much.

Suggestions

  • "Something" is hung up, stuck, spinning.  Restart everything - including your computer, printer, other devices connected to the app, and maybe -- if you can stand it -- your router.  This might be enough.

  • If you have HP Smart (Windows or Mobile) installed on more than one device, all the versions of the app on the other device(s) must be the latest version of the application available for that platform (computer, tablet, phone).

  • If you are caught up in the new release of HP Smart > HP App, the upgrade is supposed to be seamless -- The first two statements (about "stuck" and / or using latest version of the app on every device) might apply.

  • If your HP Smart app was not scheduled for upgrade today, then it's possible that the HP Smart application data has become corrupted.  The app data can be removed by Resetting the HP Smart application.  The Reset HP Smart does remove the app's account data (and all your personalization of the app) -- The Reset might (or might not) be enough to resolve any issues.

Hi Dragon-Fur,

First, thanks for responding to my posting. Second, I tried every single step you mentioned and still I have nothing but a blank white screen when I open up the HP Smart App on my computer.

I restarted my computer, printer, and router. I made sure the wireless was working properly. I tried to repair and reset the app. I uninstalled it entirely and reinstalled ("got" a new copy) from the Microsoft Store. I'm not sure about the same versions being loaded, but I can see my printer on the app I have installed on my phone.

I'm at a loss as to what, if anything, I can do to get a working version of HP Smart on my computer. Should I just bag it and installed the HP App that replaces HP Smart? Please advise at your convenience. Any and all additional help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

blr33

You are welcome — and I don’t know.

The reformatted “HP App” that will take the place of HP Smart has officially launched.

There is some kind of mystery time-table when it will make it to the various regions of the World.

Nope - I was not given any hints on when those of us in the USA will see the change.

At some point, the app will presumably just update and Poof !  HP App.

Dark Mode

Apparently, Dark Mode can hang HP Smart and prevent it from opening.

Read this the other day here in the Community, in fact.

Might be worth a quick check…

Try / Consider

If you have switched to Dark Mode — or a Contrast Theme — try switching to Light.

If you have not switched to “Dark”, perhaps do switch to Dark Mode, then back to Light.

?

References - Windows 11

Settings > Accessibility > Contrast Themes >>  Switch to None

Settings > Personalization > Colors > Choose your Mode = Light
