I have a HP Deskjet Ink advantage 4645 connected to a MacBook Air, O/S Monterey vers. 12.2.1.
Whenever I use the document feeder to scan, I receive the message that “HP Smart Quit Unexpectedly” and that they will report the problem to Apple. (I don’t have the problem when I scan off the glass.)

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I see that the HP Smart app stops responding when you try to scan using the feeder.
- Have you also tried reinstalling it from the App Store?
To resolve the issue, download the HP Easy Scan App from the App Store.
And, also update the printer firmware:
- Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.
- Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Use the HP Easy Scan app from the App Store to check if that works fine when scanning from the feeder.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
