@Alonzo1977, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you are experiencing a Tri-color Printhead Error on your HP Smart Tank 6001 after refilling the ink tanks, here are steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Check Printhead Installation:

  • Make sure the printheads are correctly installed.
  • Open the front door of the printer and then open the printhead access door.
  • Ensure the printhead carriage latch is closed. If open, push it down to close it.

Remove and Reinsert the Printhead:

  • Locate the printhead indicated by the error (likely the Tri-color printhead).
  • Carefully press down to release it, remove the printhead, and set it on a protective surface.
  • Make sure any packing materials, such as plugs or tape, are removed from the printhead.
  • Reinsert the printhead into its slot at a slight upward angle. Push it until it snaps into place.

Close the Printer Doors:

  • Close the printhead access door, followed by the front door of the printer.

Align the Printheads:

  • If your printer has a touchscreen, follow the on-screen instructions to print an alignment page and align the printheads.
  • If it does not have a touchscreen, an alignment page might print automatically — follow the instructions on the page.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in, and turn it on. This can help reset any error conditions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
