Just installed HP Smart on my PC and installed the printer.  HP Smart App does not appear in my list of Windows Programs and Features and I can't find it in Program Files. Where is it located and why? I can operate the printer/scanner from both the HP Smart app and from the Windows Devices menu, but on the LCD screen it says my computer is not connected to the PC. **bleep**? Why do we have to figure out this kind of nonsense as a consumer community?  Someone from HP should be fielding these questions and providing clear answers. I paid for the freaking product and the first thing they prompted me to do in setup was to upsell other crap to me, in stead of making sure the product works properly regardless of whether I want to use my phone, the LCD screen, my PC or any of the apps that one can access and operate the printer form. I changed from Canon to HP for the very reason that the Canon drivers and apps were complicated and awkward to use.

What and How?

There are specific documents meant to explain how to complete different tasks.

It is true that some of these documents are more or less specific to the printer model and / or the Operating System / version.

In general, software and apps are more robust in Windows --

I particular, what you do and how you do it does differ depending on the device (computer, tablet, phone).

Those of us who regularly answer questions here in the Community represent a cross section of the communities in general -- we have different skill sets, specialties, and interests.  You are welcome to ask for our help if you wish to do so.

If you would rather, many subjects are covered in the multitudes of documents, user guides, videos, and articles offered by HP proper.

" HP Smart App does not appear in my list of Windows Programs and Features and I can't find it in Program Files. Where is it located and why?"

HP Smart, when installed in Windows, is located in Settings > Apps.

HP Smart is an application -- applications are not listed in Programs and Features

Windows 10 > Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Windows 11 > Settings > Apps > Installed Apps

The full printer software, when installed, is located in Programs and Features

The full driver software, for reasons known to Microsoft, when installed, is also listed in Settings > Apps.

What?

The listing of software / programs in Apps might be an example of the reported move by Microsoft to reduce or get rid of the Control Panel at some point.

Scan to PC

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop.

Note:  HP Scan is not installed (only) when the printer supports Scan.

Printer Assistant

HP Scan

When needed / wanted, enable "Scan to Computer" using the Printer Assistant
