HP DeskJet 2710e All-in-One Printer

HP Smart is installed and seems to work. Under Windows update I am told to install an update. When I do I get the message

"HP - Printer - 20.80.3.9568 Install error - 0x800f020b"

How do I correct this?

Hi @MEWG,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0x800f020b generally indicates a problem with installing an update, often due to a corrupted update package or other underlying issues in the system. To resolve this issue with the HP - Printer - 20.80.3.9568 update failing, try the following steps.

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter:

  • Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select Additional troubleshooters.
  • Choose Windows Update and click Run the troubleshooter.
  • Follow the prompts and apply any fixes suggested.

Reinstall the HP Smart app and printer drivers:

  • Uninstall the HP Smart app from Apps & Features in Settings.
  • Also, uninstall the HP printer driver from Device Manager (expand Printers, right-click on your printer, and select Uninstall).
  • Reboot your PC.
  • Reinstall the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.
  • Go to HP’s official support page for your printer model and reinstall the latest printer driver.

Manually Reset Windows Update Components:

Sometimes, Windows Update components get stuck or corrupted, and resetting them may resolve the issue:

  • Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  • Run the following commands one by one:

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
net start wuauserv
net start bits

  • After running the commands, try to update the printer driver again.

Check for Pending Windows Updates:

Ensure your system is fully up-to-date, as updates may be pending that can interfere with the installation.

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
  • Install any updates that are pending, restart the computer, and try the printer update again.

Manually Download and Install the Driver Update:

  • Visit HP’s support website and manually download the latest driver and software package for your printer model.
  • Run the installer to update the printer driver.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you might want to reset Windows Update components or check for any underlying issues with your Windows installation that may be preventing updates from being applied.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
