Hi @charmcuddler,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with the HP Smart app shutting down unexpectedly on your PC. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

Update the HP Smart App and Printer Drivers: Make sure that your HP Smart app and your printer drivers are up to date. Manufacturers frequently release updates to fix bugs and improve performance.

Check for Windows Updates: Ensure your PC's operating system is up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues can arise if the OS is outdated.

Clear Cache of HP Smart App: If possible, clear the cache of the HP Smart app. Over time, cache data can become corrupted, causing apps to malfunction.

Reinstall the HP Smart App: Uninstall and then reinstall the HP Smart app. This can help fix any corrupted files within the app itself.

Check for Conflicting Software: Sometimes, other software on your PC can conflict with the HP Smart app. Consider any recent installations that might be causing the issue and try temporarily disabling or uninstalling them to see if that resolves the problem.

Run a Virus Scan: Run a full system virus scan to ensure that malware or a virus isn’t causing the app to shut down unexpectedly.

Use the Printer’s Built-in Features: If you urgently need to scan and the app keeps failing, consider using your printer’s built-in scan to email or scan to cloud features if available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I should have mentioned that the PC that I am using is brand new fresh out of the box and so is the HP printer. Which also means it is a fresh brand new install of the HP Smart app. I did try most of the things you mentioned even though everything is brand new and the HP Smart app still continues to shut down on me during use.
