My HP Smart app (on updated WIN11, updated firmware on printer, good connection, cache cleared, uninstalled/reinstalled - in other words, after trying all the recommended steps) still shows a blank white box (see pic). Is it never going to work again? Help HP, please!

If you're experiencing a blank HP Smart app issue after trying common troubleshooting steps, here are some advanced solutions to help resolve the problem:
Check HP Smart App Dependencies
- Open Windows PowerShell (Admin) and run the following command to remove the HP Smart app:
Get-AppxPackage *HPInc.HPSmart* | Remove-AppxPackage
- After that, reinstall HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.
- Alternatively, you can try installing the HP Print and Scan Doctor to check for underlying issues: Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Reset HP Smart App Data (Registry & Local Files)
- Press Win + R, type: %localappdata%
- Navigate to Packages\AD2F1837.HPPrinterControl_*\LocalState and delete everything inside this folder.
- Open Registry Editor (regedit) and delete the following key:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hewlett-Packard\HP Smart
Use Compatibility Mode
- Right-click the HP Smart app shortcut, select Properties, and go to the Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 8.
- Apply the changes and restart the app.
Check for Missing Windows Components
- Some Windows components required for UWP apps (like HP Smart) may be broken. Open PowerShell (Admin) and run: sfc /scannow
- After the scan completes, restart your PC.
Create a New User Account
- Sometimes, corrupted user profiles can cause apps to malfunction. Try creating a new user account:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users > Add a new user.
- Log in to the new account and install HP Smart.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I wish it had helped. Here's what happened with each...
Check HP Smart App Dependencies
- Open Windows PowerShell (Admin) and run the following command to remove the HP Smart app:
Get-AppxPackage *HPInc.HPSmart* | Remove-AppxPackage Did not appear to do anything. Did not uninstall or change anything.
- After that, reinstall HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.
- Alternatively, you can try installing the HP Print and Scan Doctor to check for underlying issues: Download HP Print and Scan Doctor. Link is no good. Found the HPPSD, though, ran it, no help.
Reset HP Smart App Data (Registry & Local Files)
- Press Win + R, type: %localappdata%
- Navigate to Packages\AD2F1837.HPPrinterControl_*\LocalState and delete everything inside this folder. Did it.
- Open Registry Editor (regedit) and delete the following key:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hewlett-Packard\HP Smart Did noy have such a key
Use Compatibility Mode
- Right-click the HP Smart app shortcut, select Properties, and go to the Compatibility tab. Did not have a Compatibility tab (Windows 11)
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 8.Was not able to try
- Apply the changes and restart the app.
Check for Missing Windows Components
- Some Windows components required for UWP apps (like HP Smart) may be broken. Open PowerShell (Admin) and run: sfc /scannow
- After the scan completes, restart your PC. Did it. Did nothing.
Create a New User Account
- Sometimes, corrupted user profiles can cause apps to malfunction. Try creating a new user account:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users > Add a new user.
- Log in to the new account and install HP Smart. Installed with same blank white app screen!

Hi @Greggrz,
Thank you for the response.
Here's what you can try:
Check Display Drivers + GPU Acceleration
Some blank screen issues are GPU rendering bugs, especially with Intel UHD/AMD iGPU or NVIDIA Optimus.
Right-click desktop → Display Settings → Scroll to Graphics Settings
Under “Choose an app to set preference”:
Select Microsoft Store App > Choose HP Smart
Then click Options → Set to Power Saving
Save changes
Then relaunch HP Smart.
Try HP Smart in a Clean Boot Environment
We’ll test if third-party apps are blocking rendering:
Press Win + R → type msconfig
Go to the Services tab → Check Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all
Then go to the Startup tab > Open Task Manager > Disable all startup items
Restart your PC and try opening HP Smart again
Try the Web Version Instead
If it’s urgent and you need to print or scan: 👉 Go to: https://www.hpsmart.com
You can sign in with your HP ID and access most of the app's features from there.
I hope this helps.

Thank you, Kuroi_Kenshi, and I wish I could say that helped, but same issue no matter what. I know about the web version and it does work fine here, but was just hoping to get my app back working the way it used to.
Any other ideas? Anyone?

Hi @Greggrz,
Thank you for the response.
Check App Permissions Manually
Sometimes Windows 11 randomly blocks certain UWP apps from accessing features:
Go to Settings → Apps → Installed Apps → HP Smart
Click Advanced options
Make sure App permissions (Camera, Documents, etc.) are toggled ON
Scroll down and click Reset, then try again
If your web version works fine, you can pin https://www.hpsmart.com to your taskbar:
Open it in Edge
Click the 3 dots (⋯) → Apps → Install this site as an app
That way it’ll feel and function almost exactly like the original app
I hope this helps.

Hi, Kuroi_Kenshi,
The UWP app blocking things didn't help and the web version works, but installed as an app, it doesn't "feel and function almost exactly like the original app" at all. I see n o way to scan or print from it, nothing.
Sure miss being able to use the actual HP Smart. When it worked, it was great, but now...
