Deskjet 2132
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I am trying to install drivers for my Deskjet 2132 on my Macbook pro 2015 running Big Sur. Its a clean install of the OS.

Before, I was using High Sierra on the same mac with the same printer with no problems. On High Sierra, the installation is different and you do not need to download HP Smart. This seems to be where the problem lies.

When I open HP East Start, it sees my printer. The problem begins when I run HP Smart. If I check System Info, I can see my printer under USB 3.

I have installed drivers from https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

I am also trying to set up the printer on a mac mini running Mojave with exactly the same problem.

Edit:

So, I downgraded and did a clean install of High Sierra thinking that this would fix the problem. I was just running High Sierra on this mac with the same printer working after all. Does it work? No! Exactly the same problem.

So this isn't just a problem with the drivers not being updated for Big Sur like a lot of people are talking about. This is obviously a problem with HP Smart and the new way of installing the drivers.

Why cant HP just provide the old driver? I now have two macs that cant use the printer that previously worked fine under all of the same conditions except the software provided by HP.

Does anyone have a copy of the old HP Easy Start app?

For anyone with the same problem as me, I managed to get my printer working again with both Big Sur and Mojave.

I installed the driver package from Apple that I linked in the main post. I then went into System Preferences on my mac and clicked + to add a printer (whilst connected to the printer via USB). I already knew my mac could see the printer from looking in About This Mac - System Report - USB, so my printer did appear after pressing +.  Now instead of leaving the generic printer option selected in "Use", I selected a different driver as there was no match for my printer. I selected the closest I could to my model, in this case it was deskjet 2150. After this, I can now print again on both Big Sur and Mojave.

As for scanning, there are third party scanning apps. I read that Vuescan will work fine, but its paid. I seriously couldnt be bothered to search for a free one after spending so long sorting out HP's mess. But if this trick lets you print again, then your mac can see your printer. And if your mac can see your printer then a free third part scanning app should see it too.
