HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

My HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 worked for a couple of years just fine.  Then HP released HP Smart, the WORST software program in a LONG TIME!  It cannot find my printer now.  I can't even scan from this.  I was able to print a document in the past hour, but not scan.  When I look in HP Smart, it says this printer is "Printer Status Unknown".  I use another HP printer at another office (HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 series), and it sees it and says it is ready.  THE 8610 IS INSIDE MY HOME WHILE THE 8020 IS NOT!!!  It is on a different network!  Why can't if find the printer that is right here???  

 

I can ping the printer from my computer just fine!  Obviously it is connected.  What's the problem???

 

I'd complain about HP Smart directly to HP, but I haven't found a way to do that.  I think HP Smart is a TERRIBLE product!  Microsoft spools to printers just fine; HP Smart just complicates this and doesn't work very well!  If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I see that you are not able to scan using the HP Smart app. Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Yes, if you are able to print and PING  the printer, it means it is connected to the computer just fine.

 

Have you tried reinstalling the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store?

 

Use HP Scan and Capture app and check if that helps.

Unfortunately, I have to second this opinion. Every single time I open it, as well as on my Windows 11 and on my Windows 10 laptop it says "Print status unknown".  I can print, but I can't use the scanner function.

 

Yes, re-installing helps, but I don't want to do that every single time !  I also tried to download and install the full drivers package of my printer (HP OfficeJet 8012e), but the only option I got on https://support.hp.com/ is to download... HP Smart...

 

HP, please fix this !  The internet is full of this problem, but no solution...
