The HP Smart app asks, "How do you want to connect to this printer?"  It gives two options:  Wi-Fi and Ethernet.

Well, neither.  This printer is connected to my Mac with a USB cable.  Does the HP Smart app really not support USB connections?  If so, it's really lame.

Hi @GPS_Pilot,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

The HP Smart app primarily focuses on wireless connectivity, so it may not provide an option for USB-connected printers. However, you can still use your USB-connected printer with your Mac by adding the printer directly to your system. Here's how you can do it:

Open System Preferences: Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen and select "System Preferences."

Printers & Scanners: In the System Preferences window, click on "Printers & Scanners."

Add Printer: Click on the "+" button below the list of printers on the left-hand side.

Select the Printer: Your USB-connected printer should appear in the list of available printers. Select it and click on "Add."

Print Test Page: Once the printer is added, you can print a test page to ensure it's set up correctly.

After you've added the printer to your Mac, you should be able to print to it from any application. The HP Smart app may still be useful for other features, such as checking ink levels and ordering supplies, even if it doesn't directly support USB-connected printers.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
