HP Smart, now, for the first time, says my “time has expired” and I have to log in. So, I try to log in and it opens up about five Safari screens. Then, it places a black box on top of all that, so there's no way to log in!
Furthermore, I'm using the latest Mac OS—Sequoia 15.3.2. They don't seem to respect newer Mac models.
So, because of all this hassle, I've canceled my InstantInk subscriptions. I'll just buy cartridges at a store when I need them. I don't print that much.
But, because I can't use HPSmart, I can't scan! And, I want to scan something.

Hi @PeterBB
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating situation, especially with the HP Smart app's login issues on macOS Sequoia 15.3.2.
Let’s tackle this step by step to get your scanning functionality back:
1. Clear Browser Cache and Cookies
- Since Safari opens multiple screens and displays a black box, clearing your browser's cache and cookies might help:
- Open Safari, go to Safari > Preferences > Privacy, and click Manage Website Data.
- Remove any entries related to HP or HP Smart.
2. Use a Different Browser
- If Safari continues to cause issues, try logging in through another browser like Chrome or Firefox. This might bypass the black box problem.
3. Reinstall HP Smart
- Uninstall the HP Smart app from your Mac and download the latest version from the Mac App Store.
- Reinstalling can resolve compatibility issues with newer macOS versions.
4. Enable Permissions
- Ensure HP Smart has the necessary permissions:
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders.
- Check that HP Smart has access to your files and folders.
5. Use Image Capture for Scanning
- If HP Smart remains uncooperative, you can use macOS's built-in Image Capture app to scan:
- Connect your printer to your Mac.
- Open Image Capture (found in Applications).
- Select your printer from the list and scan your document.
