I have had an HP 6970 for a couple of years. Recently I bought a new PC so had to install the most recent drivers/software etc.
But the HP Smart software is nowhere near as flexible/configurable as the older version of scanning software I used on my old PC. For example, I can't find how to 'ignore blank pages' and similar things like that.
So I have two questions:
- Am I missing something in the HP Smart (on Win10) and am just not seeing the options
- If they aren't there, how do I go back to the older, and better in my view, software?
Thanks

Hello,
To be able to use the full functionality of your printer, please download and install the printer with the HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 series Full Drivers and Software.
I remain at your disposal in case of need.

I have done this several times and it does not provide the options that used to be there.
If they are there then please point me to where I can select an option to 'ignore blank pages' while scanning.
Thanks

Thanks for your return,
Please use the HP Scan application.
- Click on the Start menu in the taskbar.
- Click HP, then click HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 series-HP Scan. The HP Scan application opens.
- or: Click HP, then click HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 series. The HP Printer Assistant opens. Click on Scan section, and then Scan a document or photo. The HP Scan application opens.
- Then check the options for ignoring blank pages when you scan.
- Try to scan.

Hi
Still no joy.
When I click on HP I do not see the options that you suggest, all I see are:
- HP Officejet Pro 6970 (but all that does is launch the DeviceSetup exe)
- HP TWAIN Administration
Also under 'H' I see HP Smart 'New'
I DO NOT see
HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 series-HP Scan nor
HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 series
I have removed the printer and re-run the setup. At no stage am I asked if I want to install any Scan app. All that get installed is HP Smart and IRIS OCR.
I have tried to uninstall (in Settings) the HP 6970 Basic Device Software (40.12.1161.1896) but it will not uninstall it saying something about needing to be part of Admin Group.

Thanks for your return,
This tells us that the complete software and drivers for your printer are not properly installed in your computer.
In order to resolve this incident, please follow the following procedure:
1. Uninstall printing software:
- Unplug the USB cable at the back of the printer, if necessary.
- On the keyboard, simultaneously tap the Windows flag and the R key. The Run window opens.
- Type appwiz.cpl, then OK. The Programs and Features window opens.
- Click the right mouse button on HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 series Basic Software, then Uninstall and Yes.
Note: If the software uninstall process does not start or an error displays while uninstalling, download Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed from the Microsoft website, and then try uninstalling again.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the uninstall of the printer.
- Restart the computer.
2. Launch the registry editor:
- On the keyboard, simultaneously tap the Windows flag and the R key. The Run window opens.
- Type regedit, then OK. The registry editor opens.
- Develop HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, click with the right mouse button on Hewlett-Packard and Delete. (If the PC is HP-branded, develop Hewlett-Packard and remove Digital Imaging)
3. Delete the HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 series folder in the way:
- C: \Program Files\HP
- C:\Program Files (x86)\HP
4. Rename folder 3 in 3_old in the path below (a restart may be required):
- C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64.
- C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\W32X86.
NOTE: If the file refuses this action do as follows:
- On the keyboard, tap the Windows and X keys simultaneously.
- Click on Command prompt (admin), and then Yes.
- Type net stop spooler, then press Enter.
- Rename the file.
- Type net start spooler, then tap Enter.
5. Launch a new installation of the printer with the previously downloaded full software and drivers.
I remain at your disposal in case of need.

Hi
Still no joy - the installation of the 'Basic Device Software' fails. I have tried the Troubleshooter but with no effect.
The error message reads as follows:
"Installation Error
The installer has encountered and unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with the package. The error code is 2753"
If I use Windows Settings to Add a printer, then I can find and create a printer. I can also print to it and also scan from it BUT only using HP Smart.
There is no 'HP' that now appears in my start menu and there is no 'Basic Device Sofwtare' in the Apps list.
Note that this printer is NOT connected to my PC by USB - it is on a network.

Thanks for your return,
"Internal Error 2753" is related to a Windows Installer failure. If this error appears on a Windows operating system, applications will not be installed.
Follow these steps to resolve this incident:
- On the keyboard, tap the Windows and R keys simultaneously.
- Type %TEMP% then hit Enter.
- Select all files in the Temp folder and delete.
- Note: If any files will not delete, choose 'Skip' or 'Okay.'
- Reboot the system and perform uninstall.
Register the installer files:
- On the keyboard, tap the Windows and X keys simultaneously.
- Click Command prompt (admin), and then Yes.
- Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll and press the Enter key.
- The following message should appear:
DllRegisterServer in vbscript.dll succeeded. - If this message appears, the required files for the installer have been successfully registered. Install and uninstall functionalities are restored.
- Re-launch the printer installation with the complete software and drivers previously downloaded.
I remain at your disposal in case of need.

Hello and thanks for your return,
You can also use Windows PowerShell (admin).
Then continue the procedure. The problem comes from Windows, so in Windows PowerShell type SFC /Scannow and press Enter.
If the issue persists, it may be necessary to reset Windows without losing any files.
Do not hesitate to contact us in case of need.
