Each time I try to install the printer via a wireless connection, it detects the printer but suddenly stops installation by stating it is offline. I have uninstalled the driver, the printer, and the HP Smart print software several times with different HP wireless printers but the error keeps being the same. Selecting the printer

If the problem repeats with every and different printers, the problem is likely in the network or the way the printers are connected to that network.
Note - "What if"
If all of the suggestions and checks pass the tests,
Try the obvious: Restart everything, including your network router.
and
If all of the suggestions fail to budge the issue - AND the Restart of "Everything" fails to impact the results,
Check to make sure Windows Updates are pending or needing to Install updates
And
Reload the full driver printer software:
Uninstall full driver printer software from Programs and Features > Restart the computer > Download > Save > Install a fresh copy of the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software > Restart the computer and log in
In the case of the DeskJet printer submitted with your question, here is the printer software installation package:

If none of the printers are connecting,
Consider:
If you have not done so,
Uninstall the HP Smart app from Settings > Apps > Apps and Features
Restart the computer and log in
Get a fresh copy of the HP Smart app and install it
HP Smart for Windows
HP Smart is an application available in the Microsoft Store
OR
Open the Homepage / Support Website for your printer
Category Software and Drivers > Check the Box Get the App
Open and Read >>> HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
NOTES:
- Disconnect from Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection before downloading.
- Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer or mobile device and connect to your network. If the computer is connected to the network with an Ethernet cable, temporarily disconnect the cable and use the Wi-Fi connection during the setup.
- HP Smart requires that you sign into the application using your HP Account credentials.
- HP Smart benefits (likes) having the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software installed. For example, full driver provides access to Shortcuts and Printing Preferences.
- Document includes the HP Smart application download links for Windows and Mobile devices, plus an FAQ section to assist with questions / issues.
- FAQ examples:
- What are the requirements to use the HP Smart app?
- Which printers are compatible with the HP Smart app?
- Why do I need to sign in or create an account to use the HP Smart app features?
- Which languages does the HP Smart app support?
- Older versions of the HP Smart app no longer support the required login feature.
- Update the application to the latest version to access / use HP Smart

What else?
If you are not using it, make sure Wi-Fi Direct is switched OFF on the printer(s)
If using VPN: Switch OFF your VPN before attempting to install printer software.
Make sure a dual band network is able to connect to the printer -
Make sure the router is broadcasting on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
Assign a separate SSID network name to each band / frequency and connect each different printer to the 2.4GHz SSID named network you intend that printer to use.
HP DeskJet GT 5820, 5821, 5822
Connection method | Requirement |
Wired (Ethernet) | n/a |
Wireless | 802.11 b/g/n – 2.4 GHz networks only |
USB | Hi-speed 2.0 USB |
Wi-Fi Direct | Wireless network |
HP Smart app | Wireless network |
Near field communication (NFC) | n/a |
Example - Dual Band Network
SSID_Dual_Band_Example_8
What else?
Check the router logs - if different printers will not / cannot connect and stay on the network, the logs might give you a hint about the reason.
Make sure all the devices are connected to the same network.
In the case of printers connecting to a Windows computer, change the connection type to TCP/IP.
A static / manual IP address assigned to the printer (and even other devices) can help with a balky (unreliable) connection.
Installation - Optional / Extras
Method – Add printer using TCP/IP
Please try adding the printer using the printer’s IP address
Find the IP Address of the printer on the Printer Control / Display Panel (touch Wireless button)
Control Panel > icon view Devices and Printers
Click in the top ribbon, Add a Printer
Wait till the menu starts…
Select / Click The printer that I want isn’t listed
Select / Click Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname
Select / Click Next
Device Type > Select in Drop-Down Menu: TCP/IP Device
Hostname or IP Address > Enter the IP Address of the printer
(Skip Port Name)
Select / Click Next
Continue and answer prompts
OR
Method - Create TCP IP port
** Install – Optional - Port Issues - Create a TCP/IP port **
TCP/IP can resolve odd connection, scanning, and installation problems.
Create / Switch to a TCP/IP Port to facilitate communication and prevent ‘offline’ issues
How-to “Create TCP Port” Contributed by greenturtle:
1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, Right-Click the printer and Left-Click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.
This video resource will show you how to do it:
Create & Use TCP IP port
Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port within the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)
