This is the dumbest "Smart" software I've ever seen. It sees the wireless printer immediately, says it's online. Click on it to add it to HP Smart and it immediately says the printer is now offline. Re-scan and it says online again. Rinse. Repeat. PULL ALL HAIR OUT OF HEAD.
I've tried restarting Windows, making sure the print spooler is empty, power cycling the printer, reinstalling HP Smart twice. Nothing fixes this frustrating issue. It prints fine from Windows. Never an issue. I just wanted to check the toner status.
I already updated the firmware to the latest version (2019) that I could find.
MODERATORS: Would you please quit removing the image? There's nothing personally identifiable in the image. The IP address shown is a PRIVATE, UNROUTABLE IP ADDRESS behind a firewall, and I couldn't care less if anyone knows what it is.
(My other IP is 127.0.0.1. Maybe you should try DDOSing that IP and see how far that gets you...)

@Mr10Million, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I understand the HP Smart detects the printer but then says it's offline. Have you tried reinstalling this app from the Microsoft Store?
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue
Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.
If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
Click here to download the HP Full-feature driver.
Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.
This will allow you to control the printer and check the ink status.
Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Yes, as I stated in the original post, I have already reinstalled the software twice, updated the firmware and restarted both the printer and Windows multiple times.
The print doctor util doesn't help at all. It wants me to install the HP Bloatware, which also WILL NOT INSTALL BECAUSE IT DOESN'T SEE THE PRINTER on the network. I entered it by IP address and hostname, but it still says it can't find the printer. Back in Windows Printers, there it is online and working fine. I also tried with the firewall disabled. Same issue.
In the end I gave up wasting my time on this very frustrating issue. The web interface for the printer works perfectly and shows which cartridge needs replacing, so no need for the bloatware after all.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.
