On a new Lenovo Thinkpad with Windows 11, multiple attempts to install HP Smart software fail with:

Phaedrusxon_0-1760626967807.png

I am installing as an administrator, and have set full control in ACLs for my username, group administrators.  It still fails.  As my user, I am able to create a new file in this directory from explorer.

Are there any alternative installation methods?

Hi @Phaedrusxon,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Smart software is failing to install on your Windows 11 Lenovo ThinkPad, even with administrative rights and folder permissions. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

    a. Run Installer as Administrator
Right-click the HP Smart installer and select Run as administrator, even if you are logged in as an admin.
Confirm any User Account Control prompts that appear.

    b. Clear Previous Installations
Go to Settings → Apps → Apps & features and uninstall any previous HP Smart or HP printer software.
Restart your computer to ensure all residual files are cleared.

    c. Temporarily Disable Antivirus/Firewall
Sometimes security software blocks installations. Temporarily disable any antivirus or firewall and try installing again.
Remember to re-enable protection after installation.

    d. Use the Microsoft Store Version
Open the Microsoft Store, search for HP Smart, and install the app from there instead of using the downloaded installer.

    e. Check Windows Permissions
Ensure your user account has Full Control over the C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) folders.
Right-click → Properties → Security → Edit Permissions, and confirm ownership if necessary.

    f. Install Using a Different User Profile
Create a new local admin account in Windows 11 and try installing HP Smart from that account.
Sometimes corrupted profiles prevent software installation.

I hope this helps.
