HP Smart will not load from Microsoft Store. The answer given is that I am using VPN. This not the case here and, as a test, other software has been downloaded. This error has occurred since Tuesday (22/6/21) when it was successfully downloaded. This is affecting three computers connected to two ISPs.

What exact error or behavior occurs when trying to install the app?

Was it yesterday or some days ago? you state yesterday but states 22/6/2021), there been some general Microsoft Store issues 2 or 3 days ago...

There were no errors, it just does nothing. What I wrote was that it worked on Tuesday (22/6/21) and did not work on Thursday (24/6/21). This is a hard fault. I have just tried it again on my spare machine.

Can you see different results with other apps?

For example, are you able to successfully install HP Scan and Capture and test it? is it installed or can you see any similar behavior there too?

HP Scan and Capture installs and works. HP Smart still does not install.

Thanks for clarifying.

Let's try clearing the app data and check for any difference with the installation then:

  • Right-click the Start menu and select Run.
  • Type %appdata% and press OK.
  • Browse one level up.
  • Open the Local folder.
  • Open the Packages folder
  • Locate the HP Smart app folder and delete it, it will start with random characters and then HPPrinterControl (such as below example from my PC, the front characters vary):

Now restart your PC and try installing HP Smart from the store again, check if you may see any difference then.

There are no folders containing that name. The one dated 24/6/21 must be HP Scan and Capture. I deleted that and rebooted. That still won't install. The one for HP Smart must be one of those dated 31/5/20 when I installed the machine.

I think you are on the right track in thinking that there is a file left behind preventing it being installed again, but goodness knows how to find out which one.

Sorry for the delay, but I didn't have access to my friend's computers. Loaded "HP Print & Scan Doctor" and ran it. That put me into Microsoft Store to download "HP Smart".  That loaded and so I ran it. The printer can be accessed from both computers. The only snag was that it didn't set the printer as default. Looks like the Doctor cleared the files stopping the download.
