Just yesterday, HP Solution Center stopped recognizing my Officejet 4500 G510a printer. The front panel button no longer shows the shortcut to 'scan to' options. I completely uninstalled all HP products on the PC and reinstalled. Still does not recognize printer. All my other applications can successfully print/scan to the printer. I downloaded HP Print and Scan Doctor. It recognizes the problem that the printer is not recognizing and attempted to fix with out success. I then downloaded HP Scan and Capture to successfully scan documents. Does anyone have any suggestion what is causing the HP Solution Center to not recognize the printer?

Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.
I understand that you have an HP Officejet 4500 All-in-One Printer and the HP Solution Center is unable to scan from the printer. I read that scanning works fine using other applications. Fabulous analysis. Spectacular diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.
I did some research and found that the HP Printer Assistant replaced HP Solution Center for printers in 2011 and later. HP Printer Assistant installs with the full feature print driver and provides similar functionality to HP Solution Center.
Therefore If HP Solution center is already present and working fine in Win10, then it can stop working at any moment and may not work after that. Please find below an example image of how the HP Printer Assistant looks:

Hope this information helps. Feel free to keep me posted for any further questions. Cheers! 🙂

MKazi,
I am unable to find a direct link to download HP Printer Assistant. All references state download the full version software for the printer. When I downloaded and installed the software, HP Solution Center was a part of it. Do you have a direct link to download HP Printer Assistant?
Thanks for your assistance!

Hi @ltaama,
I read the super quick reply. It is great to have you back. Brilliant efforts, splendid troubleshooting skills coupled with immense patience have been displayed by you. Kudos to you for that. 🙂 As @MKazi is out for the day, I am taking over from here.
Please perform these steps:
Please perform a root level uninstallation and reinstallation of the printer drivers by following these steps:
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2wdGJUP and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This should fix it for you.
It should bring back printer assistant for you.
- Here are the printer assistant FAQs: http://hp.care/2DrGYvV (HP Printers - HP Printer Assistant Software Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- Also, you could use HP scan and capture and HP Smart App with Windows as Solution center is obsolete and does not work with Windows 10.
- This document http://hp.care/2DrGZjton how to scan gives you information about it. (HP Printers - How to Scan (Windows)
- Please refer to the section under (Are other scanning apps or methods available?)
- This is provided to you as an alternative if printer assistant still does not work.
This should do the trick for you.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂
Cheers!

Thanks, Dave.
There are several issues with your solution. First, the instructions appear to be for a previous version of Windows. As noted above, I have Windows 10. The other issue is the link you provided was for a HP Officejet 4500 G510g~m; my printer is a 4500 G510a (also noted above). Thinking it might be backward compatible, I attempted to install. The software did not recognize my printer during the installation process. At this point, there does not appear to be a viable solution for my issue. I am going to reinstall the initial software and use HP Scan and Capture for scanning documents. I want to thank you and MKazi for you efforts. You can close this ticket.
