Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to install an old USB Laserjet LJ 1200 (s/n [personal info removed]) in a new Windows 10(64 bit) laptop.  I downloaded Dot4x64.msi from HP  website.  I used 7 Zip to extract the following 11 files into a directory I labeled "LJ 1200 drivers".

     difxapi.dll     dot4.cat    dot4.inf   Dot4.sys    dot4prt.cat   dot4prt.inf   Dot4Prt.sys    Dot4Scan.sys    Dot4usb.sys

hppldcoi.dll   PortChanger.exe  [if I mistyped one, my old eyes are not what they once were!]

I then used  Windows 10 "add printer" to manually install the printer.  There was no USB port in the port list, so I created a port that I named "USB1-LJ1200".  When it came time to install the drivers, I selected "have disk" and browsed to the the directory "LJ 1200 drivers" containing the 11 files.   "C:\LJ 1200 drivers" appeared in the "browse" target window.  When I said "OK"  I got a message saying (I don't remember the exact wording) that the correct drivers were not in this list, and the installation failed.

I have spent hours searching the internet for a solution.  One HP site said use "Universal Printer Drivers" which only have drivers for PCL6 and PS.  Another HP web site said the LJ 1200 does not support PCL6 and PS.

From what I have seen on the web, installing a LJ 1200 in Windows 10 is very difficult.   I am frustrated, and would appreciate any suggestion that might work.  Several months back I was able to make a contribution to a HP Support forum that solved a problem of some kind, now it is my turn to ask for help.  Thanks much.
