Today I wanted to Print some papers from a file in File Explorer and Hp sent a blurp that the main printer setting is now changed to HP Smart App. I did not request this change and I now am not able to change my setting back to my preferred choice. Since when does HP have the right to change and lock setting to what they want and not what the owner of the printer wants and needs to use in their use of the printer. I don't like this change at all and followed the instructions to change it back. The blurp stated it is a permanent change. As far as I am concerned they have overstepped their bounds. I know how I want to print and what i want to print. I did try the HP Smart app for printing and it has way too many steps to have only 1 item printed. I would like to see that permanent change reversed to allow a consumer to make their own choices. I pay for the paper and the ink I should be able to use it as I see fit.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

True that the HP Smart Printing driver cannot be easily removed -- and if removed, will likely show up again.

Untrue that you have to use HP Smart Printing.  Like other drivers you don't use, once the settings are changed, you can ignore the HP Smart Printing driver in Devices and Printers.

True - If you have not done so, Install the Full Feature Software

Installing the full driver means you do not have to use the HP Smart application (which is also optional in your Windows environment).

Ask if you need help to install the Full Feature Software / Full driver printer software.

Adjust the settings for Driver selection

After the full driver printer software is installed,

Adjust the Printer Properties to use the preferred / installed HP driver for your printer.

Example - Printer Properties - Default driver

What else?

In general, the change for printer / driver selection can also be made during job setup in the software / application you are using to open, view, configure, and submit the job to the printer.  Ask if you need help or want to see an example.  Be sure to indicate which software or application you are using to print.
