Hey @Unicorn1095

Welcome to the HP Forums! If you can't find a different alternate driver to use, it might be time to consider upgrading to a new model that will be fully compatible. As you can see from @Rainbow7000 post above, the Deskjet 5850 is not supported on Windows 10. Using an alternate driver was a work around and not a guaranteed solution.

Best of luck.

Using the above technique I have established HP5850 support for 3 PCs on WIn10 Build 1607. But for each PC I got different driver lists, as follows: new Dell XPS13-5520 , 2 year old DELL XPS14 5600 (HPA) and 8 year old Optiplex 755 -5700(HPA). At this point they all work, at least b/w. Haven't tested color or the 250 sheet feeder. The question is why is this since as far these machins are at the same build level and I think, KB* update level. So why the different options? Going forward I am concerned about a subsequent Win10 update that will clobber them all. How can I find and save the drivers in WIN10 and re-apply the update if this happens, and perhaps get all PCs onto the best performing driver?

Since there is nothing wrong with my 5850 and it does all I want from a printer and furthermore works fine with my laptop running Ubuntu 64 bit version it seems wrong to have to update.  Is this a conspiracy between HP and Microsoft to force people to ditch good printers?

HP has ignored this issue completely. I don't understand? How hard it can be to write a Windows 10 driver for this product?
