Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We recently purchase a number of laserjet m404dn/dw models. We have had two issues with these printers:

  1. The setup for the WSD driver is causing erratic issues with our ERP software being able to find the printer
    1. fixed by setting to an ip address or virtual usb port.
  2.  The current firmware MOGAMIXXXN002.2014A.00 bugs out the printer when sending bulk pages to be printed out. Prints out garbled text and blank pages.
    1. Older firmware it function fine. We have an older m404dn with MOGAMIXXXN002.2002B.00 that can print out multiple pages without any issues.

This is the conclusion we have  from testing, resetting, and reinstalling drivers. We are at our wits end with these printers and looking for a firmware downgrade option or a firmware fix if possible. We haven't ruled out a driver issue, as we are not programmers just IT people. We be grateful for any other possible solutions that are suggested. Thanks.

You can download firmware version 02.1916A from here, use Ctrl+F to search M404. That version is even older than your working version, you can try will it work for you.

You will need to log on your printers EWS to downgrade firmware with rfu. HP doesn't recommend firmware downgrade and older versions are hard to find unless you have downloaded them before new version released.

The older M404dn has the newest firmware if the version information you provided is correct.

2.2002B.00 is a newer version than a 2.1916A.00 so you will probably need a firmware upgrade on the printer that is bugging you, not a downgrade.

HP LaserJet Pro M404 and M405 Series Firmware Enhancements and Fix List for version MOGAMIXXXN002.2002B.00

  • Contains all previous fixes and enhancements.
  • Changed default A5 orientation setting to Landscape.
  • Corrected wrong Korean translation in Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Restored 802.1x authentication option in EWS for M404n devices.
  • Fixed an issue where PDF prints might be corrupted when printed from iOS devices.
  • Corrected Korean translation issue in EWS.
  • Corrected security vulnerability where HTTP security header is not detected.
  • Corrected an issue with PJL INFO STATUS during device is ready.
  • Corrected an issue that the printer would wrongly prompt paper mismatch for size A4 and Letter.
  • Add "HP High Speed" feature (not applicable for copy speed): when "quality and speed" is set to "HP High Speed", the product will print at the fastest speed available only when all the following criteria are met:
o Print mode is normal (example paper types: plain, Letterhead, Recycled)
    o Output is 1-sided
o Size is Letter or A4
    o Quite Mode is off
o HP high speed is not supported for Tray 1

Sorry, I put the wrong firmware version. MOGAMIXXXN002.2014A.00 is the firmware version that is causing the issue not MOGAMIXXXN002.1916A.00. A Firmware downgrade or fixed would still be needed. I have corrected the firmware versions in my original post.

Right now we're sharing the printer with firmware version MOGAMIXXXN002.2002B.00 without any issues, but would prefer to be able to use the other printers that we have recently purchased.
