How do I set my preferences in printing to save and hold my choices for all print jobs instead of having to set them every print job? Such as Paper type, print quality, etc.

Hi @Linda1061,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand taking time to choose your perfect print settings (like paper type and quality), only to have to reselect them every single time. Let’s fix that.

Here’s how to save your print preferences permanently on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8130 so they’re the default for every print job.

Method 1: Set Defaults via Control Panel (Best for Persistent Settings)

  1. Open Control Panel → Go to Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on HP OfficeJet Pro 8130 → select Printing Preferences.
  3. Set your desired options:
    • Paper Type (e.g., HP Photo Paper, Plain Paper)
    • Print Quality (e.g., Best, Draft)
    • Colour Options, Tray, etc.
  4. Click Apply, then OK.

🔁 These settings are now the system-wide default for this printer.

Method 2: Set Presets in HP Smart or Printer Driver

If you use the HP Smart app or HP driver software:

  1. Open HP Smart or print dialogue from any app.
  2. Select Advanced Settings or More Settings.
  3. Choose your preferences.
  4. Look for a “Presets” or “Save As Preset” option (usually in the top or bottom section).
  5. Save the preset (e.g., name it “Photo Printing” or “Draft Mode”).

Next time, you can select this preset in one click, or even set it as the default.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
