My friend bought the HP Deskjet All-In-One 2822e. I could install and also the wifi button on the printer was blue. But for going on I need a password from HP Smart. I do not know if their was already an account. I try to make a new account but that was not accept. How can I delete an existing account and also to make a new account. The connecting to wifi on the computer (OS Windows 11) was the same as on the printer. Already thank you for information if you have. Liesbeth. On the router the WPS button was not on.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
You're doing great so far with setting up the HP DeskJet 2822e. Let's walk through the steps to resolve the HP Smart account issue and get your printer fully connected.

What’s Happening:

  • The printer is connected to Wi-Fi (blue light is on ).
  • HP Smart is asking for a password, likely because the printer is linked to an existing HP account.
  • You're unable to create a new account or proceed.

Steps to Resolve:

1. Check if the Printer is Already Claimed

HP+ printers like the DeskJet 2822e can only be linked to one HP Smart account at a time. If your friend previously set it up, it may be locked to their account. HP Smart

To check:

  • Open HP Smart on your Windows 11 PC.
  • Sign in with your HP account (or create one at HP Account Creation).
  • If the printer shows as “claimed by another account,” you’ll need to reset the printer.

2. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

This will remove any previous account association.

Steps:

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel (X) button together for 5 seconds until the power light blinks.
  3. Wait for the printer to restart. The wireless light should start blinking (ready for setup).

3. Reconnect Using HP Smart

  • Open HP Smart and sign in with your account.
  • Click Add Printer and follow the on-screen steps.
  • If prompted, claim the printer to your account.

4. No WPS on Router? No Problem

Since your router doesn’t have a WPS button, use HP Smart setup:

  • Make sure your PC is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • HP Smart will guide you through connecting the printer via Wi-Fi Direct or standard wireless setup.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Max3Aj , I try your solution first on my own printer and it was working, also changed the password of my HP account- But I did not have other printers in my system.  By my friend it was not working. Also the old printer become visible on the screen in the HP Smart app. In the old configuration screen the old printer was not visible any more. I advised her to call an expert. But still: thank you for trying to help me. Kind regards, Liesbeth

@LiesbethM, Thank you so much for your kind message and for testing the solution on your own printer first, that’s really thoughtful and helpful! I'm glad it worked for you and that you were able to reset your HP account password successfully.

Regarding your friend’s situation:

What Might Be Happening:

  • If the old printer still appears in HP Smart, it’s likely cached or still associated with the previous account.
  • If the reset didn’t fully remove the previous claim, it might need a deeper reset or manual removal from the HP Smart account it was originally linked to.

Additional Suggestions:

Here are a few more things your friend can try before calling an expert:

1. Remove Old Printer from HP Smart

  • Open HP Smart.
  • Click the printer name > Advanced Settings > Remove Printer.
  • Then try adding the printer again after a reset.

2. Clear HP Smart App Cache (Windows 11)

Sometimes cached data causes issues:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > HP Smart > Advanced Options.
  • Click Reset or Repair.

3. Use HP Smart Web Portal

Try setting up the printer via the web:

  • Go to HP Smart Web
  • Sign in and try adding the printer from there.

I hope this helps!

Hello Max, Thank for your message again. I adviced her to call an expert. She did and he has solved the problem. I adviced her the new printer because the cartridges are much cheaper. With the printer and the expert, she has payed a litlle bit more than new cartridges for the old printer and now she is up to date. I like the HP community for questions. kind regards Liesbeth
