HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer (G5J38A)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The hard drive replaced on my HP Envy 23, and 64-bit Win 10 Pro Build 1809  was installed. The HP 7740 printer now throws an I/O error 0x000003e3 with message "The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request."  I have uninstalled drivers, rebooted, reinstalled drivers (full package and basic only) from HP support site. I can scan from the printer, so it is not a network issue.

Other support forums suggest editing the registry. Is this the only way to fix this error?

Hi @techarts,

A warm welcome to HP Community!

It sounds like an issue with the print driver installed on your computer. Use the method below to remove exiting print drivers from your computer:

Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and the computer is up to date with it's software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Windows software:

Update printer firmware

Update Windows

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.)  Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) In Windows, search for and open Services.

16.) In the Services window, right-click Print Spooler, and then select Stop.

17.) After the service stops, close the Services window.

18.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

19.) Type spool and click Ok.

20.) Open drivers folder and then open x64 folder. Rename 3 folder to old

21.) Restart the computer.

Once the computer is fully initialized, download and install the printer software and driver available here.

Let me know how it goes!
