Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with the printer not working after a windows update. Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you try to remove the printer and re-add it again in devices and printers?
- DId you run HP print and scan doctor and check again?
For now, try these steps:
- Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://hp.care/2J3guG8 and follow instructions from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer”
- Then run HP print and scan doctor from here https://hp.care/2b4bUIM and check if the issue gets fixed.
If the issue continues then try these steps:
Then from this link: https://hp.care/2Cdx9ku (HP Printers - Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows) perform instructions only from step 2.
- There is an associated YouTube Video on how to remove it.
Then from this link: https://hp.care/2igKeU1 (HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver) perform only these steps:
- Step 2: Connect your printer to the computer
- Step 3: Install the print driver with the Add a Printer wizard
- There is an associated YouTube Video on how to do it.
This should fix the issue for you.
If this does not work, then uninstall and reinstall the printer software and drivers at the root level by following these steps:
- (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
Then install the built-in drivers from https://hp.care/2igKeU1 (HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver) and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
- There is an associated YouTube Video on how to do it.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This should do the trick for you.
If this does not work, then try these steps:
- Then create a new user account as an administrator from this link: https://hp.care/2rZfJBC
Log into the new user account after restarting your computer. Then install the printer drivers and check. It should get fixed.
For scanning, you could use this app HP scan and capture: https://hp.care/2fAFYxE (HP Printers - Using the HP Scan and Capture App (Windows 8 and 10)
This gives you instructions on how to use, download and install the app with some useful FAQs.
Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response. It is paramount to assist you as you are a valued HP customer.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

@DavidSMP Thank you so much for your reply. Works perfectly now, following your steps.
I have just removed the printer (uninstall it from Apps & Features) and also removed the device from Printers & scanners
Then Ι downloaded the file
and install it from the beginning.
All works perfectly now.
Thank you so much! 🙂
