I cannot get my HP printer WiFi to connect to my new iPhone 15. I get as far as "the phone is looking for" but can't find the printer. I need to be able to print from my computer, not just my phone. I used to be able to do that, before I got the new phone.
And, yes, the phone is but inches from the printer.
And, yes, I have purchased the HP app and have it on my computer.

@FredMelton, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
It sounds like you're having trouble connecting your HP DeskJet 4158e to your new iPhone 15 and also want to ensure it prints from your computer. Let’s walk through the steps to get everything working smoothly again.
Reset the Printer’s Network Settings
To ensure a clean setup, reset the printer’s Wi-Fi settings:
- Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons on the printer for 5 seconds until the Power light blinks.
- This will restore the network settings to default.
Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi
Use the HP Smart app on your iPhone or computer:
- Make sure your iPhone or computer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer on.
- Open the HP Smart app.
- If you don’t have it yet, download it here: HP Smart
- Tap “+” to add a new printer.
- The app should detect your printer in Setup Mode (within 2 hours of reset).
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to Wi-Fi.
Enable Printing from iPhone
Once the printer is on the same Wi-Fi network:
- You can print directly from your iPhone using AirPrint (no extra app needed).
- Just open a document or photo, tap Share > Print, and select your printer.
Print from Your Computer
If you’ve already installed the HP Smart app on your computer:
- Open the app and ensure the printer is listed.
- If not, click “+” to add it again.
- You can now print, scan, and manage settings from your PC.
Still Not Working?
If the printer isn’t found during setup:
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone (used during setup).
- Ensure the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router.
- Restart your router, printer, and phone/computer.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
