That post is misleading ... except for the introductory part, the entire post is from the other thread written by someone else! I just used the idea successfully. To give credit where it is due, send a thanks you to user: BryanCustomPure.

 

Hopefully things will last, but the fix is working right now. Scanning is back too.

I downloaded the driver from Apple. thanks very much Woodchal, very kind of you to share.

What a bunch of knuckleheads HP are. They won't even let you call them if you are no longer on warranty, even for a problem that they should solve themselves. How frustrating. This has taken me hours to solve.
