Hello. After completing a SCAN job, My HP Envy 5055 printer is no longer my default printer. HP Smart now pops up when I try to print something. When it searches for my printer it indicates that no printer is found. I am using Win 10, the printer is connected via USB directly to the computer. The printer is powered on. In checking my "Printers and Scanners" it is listed. I am using a Lenovo Idea-5 laptop.  How do I get rid of the HP Smart printing and return to direct printing with the HP Envy 5055 printer? Thanks.

             Hello hollibulldawg,

If your printer is not in the control panel, it was installed incorrectly. You will need to download the full HP driver for your printer from the HP website. Then, You must now uninstall the old driver for your printer, through Programs and Features, delete all the names referring to the names of your printer in Program and Program (X86). Restart the computer. Then install the new full driver (downloaded from the HP site), once finished, restart the computer. Your printer should be working normally now and should be located in: Control Panel, Right-click on the printer name and click on ''Set as default printer''.

            Hello hollibulldawg,

Go to the control panel, devices and printers, set your default printer (right click on the name of your printer, click set as default) restart the computer. This should work now.

Bernard42, thanks for the reply. There is no "set as default" option listed under the HP Envy  icon in the Control Panel. I removed all the unused printers and fax icons (which all had a default option). Now I am left with two icons: one for HP Envy 5000 Series and one for HPE7DC80 HP Envy 5000 Series (no clue what that is). Neither icon has a default option  when right clicked. This printing problem started just after I scanned several PDF pages using the desktop icon for the HP Envy 5055 scan option. I checked that icon to make sure I had exited the scanning tool. BTW, the scanning option still works for the 5055 all-in-one printer. Should I delete this printer and reinstall? I am sure this might be PEBCAK rather than equipment related.

Thanks, Bernard42. I've used this printer for almost three years and just recently it began behaving badly. I uninstalled it and the driver and reinstalled with a new downloaded driver. It is working fine now. I appreciate your help!

To resolve the issue, first, ensure your HP Envy 5055 is set as the default printer in Windows 10. Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners," select your HP Envy 5055, and click "Manage." Then, click "Set as default." This should prioritize direct printing over HP Smart.
