HP smart tank 5100
macOS 26.0 Tahoe

I already had a big problem with the HP smart app after updatig to Tahoe (very slow,

it takes very long time to get responsive after loading a file to print: no solution from HP staff). Now after the app update (v.26.1.3.3811) from App Store, it's completely useless!!! I get these error messages:

"We're still trying to connect. We apologize for the wait..."

and then, surprise:

"We're sorry, something went wrong...."

What is happening there? Is there a solution, please?

Hi @GiangiUS,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The app often hangs with We’re still trying to connect” or “Something went wrong errors. Here’s what’s happening and how to fix it:

Reset the printer’s Wi‑Fi setup mode

On the printer, press and hold the Information button for 5 seconds until the lights flash.

Then press and hold Wireless + Cancel for 5 seconds until the Wi‑Fi light blinks blue.

Within 2 hours, retry adding the printer in HP Smart.

Reinstall the HP app

Delete the app completely.

Restart your phone.

Reinstall from the App Store.

Make sure Bluetooth and Location are enabled during setup (HP Smart requires them to detect printers).

Try a different network

Connect both the printer and the phone to a stable 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi (not 5 GHz).

Some users found switching networks bypassed the connection error.

Use direct IP printing (temporary)

On your computer, add the printer manually via its IP address (found in the printer’s Wi‑Fi settings).

This bypasses the app until HP releases a fix.

Check for firmware update

On the printer’s control panel: Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.

This ensures the printer isn’t stuck in a calibration loop.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
