@kljamalii, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the HP Smart app is frozen on your Mac and you're unable to quit or scan, try these steps to force quit and reset things:
🔧 1. Force Quit the App Manually

Since normal quitting doesn’t work:

  • Press Command + Option + Escape — this brings up the Force Quit Applications window.
  • Select HP Smart in the list.
  • Click Force Quit.

🧹 2. Use Activity Monitor to Force Quit

  • Open Spotlight (Command + Space) and type Activity Monitor, then open it.
  • In the search bar (top right), type HP Smart.
  • Select the HP Smart process, then click the X in the top left to force quit it.

🔄 3. Restart Your Mac (After Quitting the App)

Once you've force quit the app:

  • Restart your Mac to ensure nothing is stuck in memory.

If the issue happens every time you open it:

Go to Applications > right-click HP Smart > Move to Trash.

Then go to:

~/Library/Containers → delete the folder called com.hp.HP-Scanner

~/Library/Application Support → delete any folder named HP Smart

Reinstall HP Smart from the Mac App Store.

To get to the Library, in Finder press Command + Shift + G, then type ~/Library

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
