I have been told by the Call Centre of HP that they are no longer supporting the old USB only printers with Big Sur as an operating system on the Mac. The issue is to do with the security certificates on the drivers that HP are not renewing. I have a Deskjet 1510 which  has stopped working. One of the solutions given to me was to buy a Windows PC which they say would work. As I do not want to replace my Mac just to get a $100 printer working I decided to replace the printer with a CANON one. I consider this an incomprehensible decision by HP. If I'm wrong and they have a driver which works with Big Sur for the old USB printers I would like to hear about it.

Thanks TEJ1602. The issue has already been escalated, as they say, by HP and the response I got was as I mentioned. The printer was no longer supported by HP with regards to Big Sur. If you can get an alternative answer from them good luck. Please let me know. Thanks.

Since there is no longer support from HP or Apple Software Update, I'd suggest you use Gutenprint drivers.

Gutenprint (formerly called Gimp-Print) provides open-source basic print drivers for many printers that would otherwise not be supported in Mac OS X. To see if your printer is supported, go to Gutenprint drivers for more information.

NOTE: Gutenprint drivers are not supported by HP or Apple.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi @ TEJ1602.  Thanks for the information but I have already tried that route. Unfortunately Gutenprint don't have any drivers for the HP1510. I guess I will just have to bin my printer and the ink cartridges I bought for it when it was working. Good luck if you work for HP. I'm sure COVID hasn't helped the Tech companies with a lot of people working from home.

@JeffPoll

Apologies for the inconvenience caused. We do not have any other workaround, unfortunately.

Thanks for understanding!
