Hi @tstock58,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 4520 printer is not printing color despite having new cartridges and printing a test page without color, but it successfully prints in color when scanning, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Printer Settings
- Ensure that the printer settings are configured to print in color.
- Double-check the print settings in the software you are using (e.g., Print Shop) to ensure color printing is enabled.
2. Clean Print Heads
- Run the printer's built-in cleaning utility to clean the print heads. This can help remove any clogs or dried ink that may be blocking the color ink flow.
- Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to run the cleaning utility.
3. Align Print Heads
- Aligning the print heads can help ensure accurate color printing.
- Look for the print head alignment option in your printer's settings or utility menu and follow the on-screen instructions to align the print heads.
4. Check Cartridges
- Ensure that the color ink cartridges are properly installed and securely seated in the printer.
- Remove the cartridges and inspect them for any protective tapes or seals that may need to be removed before installation.
5. Verify Cartridge Authenticity
- Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges compatible with your printer model. Counterfeit or incompatible cartridges may not work properly.
- Verify the authenticity of the cartridges by checking for the HP logo and holographic seal.
6. Update Printer Firmware
- Check for any available firmware updates for your printer on the HP support website.
- Download and install any updates following the provided instructions. Firmware updates can sometimes address printing issues.
7. Use High-Quality Paper
- Low-quality or incompatible paper can sometimes affect color printing.
- Use high-quality, recommended paper for your printer to see if it improves color printing quality.
8. Test with Different Software
- Try printing a color document from a different software application to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to one program.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
