HP6830
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a home network with 2 computers, Windows 7 and Windows 10. I have an HP6830 printer connected (by USB) to the Windows 7 computer, and I want to print on it from the Windows 10 computer. I went to the printer properties and SHARED it, so now the Windows 10 computer can SEE it, but it cannot install the printer and cannot print on it, because it can't find a driver. It asks for an INF file for the HP6830.

Where can I find such INF file?

Hi Gadi,

This is very helpful information, Windows XP is a completely different story and the error information clarifies a lot.

On your Windows 10 PC, ensure that SMBv1 is enabled for your computer, it will not be able to access a Windows XP host with SMBv1 disabled due to the backward compatibility needs.

From the Control Panel select Uninstall a Program, then press on Turn Windows features on or off and check SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support among any of its sub-options, then follow the steps on screen to enable the feature and, restart the PC and check for any difference.

Note: Microsoft has released security update MS17-010 that resolves the SMB version 1 vulnerability used by the WannaCry attack, please ensure it is installed on your computer:

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I recommend you to install the HP Smart App on the Windows 10 Computer: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04675142

Let me know if this helps.

Thank you, Betty.

Currently my Windows 10 computer can't see the 6830 printer on my home network, and I don't know why. Until 2 or 3 days ago, it could see the printer but couldn't print on it. Now it can't see it at all.  Very strange.

When I solve this problem. I will try the HP Smart that you suggested.

Try connecting the Printer to your Computer via the HP Smart App.

Sorry, it doesn't work, the HP Smart app can't find the network printer. but it's not the "fault" of the HP Smart app, it's some strange problem in my home network.  When I use the Control Panel/Devices and Printers/Add printer on my Win10 computer, it "sees" the Win7 computer name ("Gadi"), but when I click the "Gadi", I only get an error message "Windows cannot access \\Gadi".

2 comments:

1. Needless to say, The HP 6830 printer is shared on the Win7 computer.

2. Until 2-3 days ago, clicking the "Gadi" in the Win10 computer (as described above) did show the 6830 printer on the Win7 computer. Now it doesn't....

Let's create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)

2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and left-click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.

3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.

4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:

Hi,

I would also suggest to temporarily connect the printer to the Windows 10 computer using the USB cable and allow the operating system several minutes to install the printer.

Now, connect the USB back to the Windows 7 PC and try adding the shared printer again, check for any difference now, when the printer drivers are already installed on your Windows 10 PC.

Betty, I don't quite understand: These 4 steps should be done on my  Win7 computer (to which the printer is directly connected)?

And after that, what should I do on the Win10 computer?

Hi Shlomi,

Your suggestion is similar to the answer I got from HP lab here in Israel, they told me to install the printer on my Win10 computer.  But this might work only if the Win10 computer recognizes , finds, sees the printer on the home network, and it currently does not (as I wrote in the previous posts).

So I'm still looking for a solution which will enable the Win10 PC to see the printer, then I will go forward with your suggestion to install the driver and enable printing.

Thanks,

Gadi
