HP7510e
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have a HP7510e Printer, which I have had for quite a few years now.

It is wirelessly connected to a Laptop and a desktop, and prints output from an iPad if required.

Desktop & Laptop are both running Windows 10 (64 bit) Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.870

However the desktop printer will intermittently say it can not comunicate with the printer, but it is showing in Devices and Printers NOT greyed out.

However no Print test page can be printed if its playing up.

I had this a few months ago, and I uninstalled the printer from Progarms & Features in the Control Panel. Last time, I am not sure if I haad to run some software to completely remove all HP stuff before re-installing.

Tonight, I did the uninstall, and a reinstall from PS7510_1315-1.exe . This is the latest software I can find.

When I reinstalled the software it found the printer straight away, but there are 2 printers in the Devices and Printers  (neither of which can print a test page)

1. (Default) HP Photosmart 7510 series (Network)

2. HPDDF980 (HP Photosmart 7510 series) .

I'm not sure why this is. Last time only one was there, but the second appeared some time later.

Can anybody please assist me to set up this printer as the default printer on my PC with just one printer ?

@Davec1510, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to print from your computer. Let us try these steps:

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Install the printer using the TCP/IP port:

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Remove all the existing printer entries > click on Add a printer(at the top)
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless/ethernet icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

@KUMAR0307

Thank you for getting back to me

Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.

Yes I do have it connected to the same Network.

If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

I do have dual band, but the 2.4GHz is "****(Q)", and the 5GHz is "****(Q)-5G" .

Install the printer using the TCP/IP port:

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Remove all the existing printer entries > click on Add a printer(at the top) I did this, but there were 2 Entries for the same printer: 2 printers shown so I deleted them both.

Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'. Done

  1. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'  Done
  2. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless/ethernet icon on the printer screen  Done
  3. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next  Done
  4. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.  Done
  5. Try printing. Printing did work, but I after a few test prints it stopped again. On the plus side, only one printer is installed "HP Photosmart 7510 series (Network)". The next thing I did was to remove the software (Programs & Features - Uninstall HP Photosmart 7510 series basic Device Software). I also deleted the HP folder in "C:\Program Files (x86)". Following this, I reinstalled the software (the latest I could find), and elected to connect via wifi, and it did see the printer. I progressed through and now I have only one printer showing and everything seems to work. However, I have been here before....

Thanks

EDIT - For some reason the link "2 Printers shown" is not working, but it was a picture of the 2 printer icons in Devices & Printers.
