Hopefully someone can can assist. I have a HP7740 printer. When I print on A4 it all works well. Prints in colour nice clean lines etc. As soon as I go to A3 printing, trying to print in colour it changes all to greyscale and prints in littile diaganal stripes and you cant make anything out. I bought this printer for the sole purpose to print A3, worked fine for ages and then did a update, now its uselesss and Im concidering going to someone other than HP if this cant be fixed.

"Going to someone"

The printer is not aware of what it is printing, how (or whether) the printer is connected to your network, or how the printer is being used in the environment you provide for it.

The printer hardware is responsible for the features the printer model supports, the ability and methods used to connect the printer to your Network, and to a smaller extent, how the printer responds to Windows (or another supported Operating System).

The environment is responsible for the applications, software, and settings to configure the printer's response to how its connected and used.

We do not judge what people decide.

What to do?

In general, funny looking A3 printing is a solvable issue, that is, the printer hardware is fine and the solution lies in the setup.

Try / Consider one or more of the following ---

A common underlying cause of this type of result is to have lost the Driver = setting in Printer Properties.

The Printer Properties > tab Advanced > Driver setting can be easily adjusted.

The Default Printer setting can (should) be (re)checked to make sure you (and not Windows) have control over which printer device is marked as the Default Printer.

Less common and certainly possible -- Windows Updates can disrupt or damage the full driver printer software.  The usual solution for damaged printer software is to uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

Details / Examples

=========================

Printer Properties

 Windows 10

Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

Right-Click on your Printer > Printer Properties > Tab Advanced

Windows 11

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Select Printer >

Printer Properties > Tab Advanced

Default Printer

Check the default printer setting to make sure Windows is not controlling your Default Printer.

Printer Software

Uncommon but certainly happens --

Windows Updates can disrupt or break printer software.

If the Printer Properties adjustment does not work on its own,

Consider uninstalling and reinstalling the full driver printer software.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Go back to Printer Properties to check the setting.

Recheck the Default Printer settings.

Ask if you need help to reinstall your full driver printer software.
