HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

I have tried everything to clear this error message:  HP7740 Problem with Supply System Cyan and Magenta.  The cartridges are full but still reading empty.  I've reinstalled, cleaned the printheads, the carriage, etc.  This is only 5 years old and I purchased for personal use in my home and is hardly used.  ugh.

Hi @sstoks,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand the frustration, especially since the printer has had very little use and you have already reinstalled the cartridges and cleaned the printhead and carriage.

Since the printer is reporting “Problem with Supply System” for Cyan and Magenta, try the following HP steps:

  1. Turn on the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  2. Wait until the carriage stops moving.
  3. Remove the ink cartridges.
    Removing cartridges
  4. Check that each cartridge contains ink and then reinstall it, making sure it is firmly seated in the correct slot.
  5. Close the cartridge access door and check whether the error clears.

If the error remains, reseat the printhead:

  1. Open the cartridge access door and wait until the carriage is idle.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
Latch on the ink cartridge carriage
  3. Lift the carriage latch.
  4. Remove and reseat the printhead, making sure it is properly positioned.
  5. Lower the carriage latch completely.
    Reseating the printhead
  6. Close the cartridge access door.
  7. Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer on.
  8. Check whether the supply-system error has cleared.

If the Cyan and Magenta supply-system error continues after these steps, the issue may be with the printhead or the cartridge recognition system rather than the amount of ink remaining in the cartridges.

If you are using third-party or refilled cartridges, also let us know. Genuine HP cartridges are recommended when troubleshooting this type of supply-system error, as the printer must correctly recognize the cartridge and its electronic contacts.

If the error remains with genuine HP cartridges after reseating the printhead, let us know the exact message shown on the printer display and whether both Cyan and Magenta are still identified. That information will help determine the next step.
