I cannot get HP8020 printer to opt for envelope setting. It gives me only the option of A4 or US letter size and no envelope option. I have printed envelopes previously but the new app doesn't seem to allow it.

With the software I have suddenly I am unable to find the setting to print envelopes with my HP8020 printer. In fact it gives me only two settings, A4 and US letter size.
I am trying to find online the software I used to have (and inexplicably disappeared) to be able to print envelopes.
Many thanks

Hi @DiegoPignatelli,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be when something as simple as printing an envelope turns into a roadblock, especially when you’ve done it before and now the app seems to have changed the rules on you. Let’s gently walk through the fix together.

Step-by-Step Workaround

Option 1: Use Microsoft Word or Another App Instead of HP Smart

HP Smart is great for quick prints, but it doesn’t always offer full control over paper sizes.

  1. Open Microsoft Word (or Google Docs if you're using a browser).
  2. Go to Mailings → Envelopes.
  3. Choose Envelope Size #10.
  4. Click Print, and select your HP OfficeJet 8020.
  5. Make sure the printer settings match the envelope size.

If you’re on macOS, use Pages or Preview and set the custom paper size manually.

Option 2: Load Envelopes Properly

Even if the software is set correctly, the printer needs to feel the envelope stack just right.

  • Load up to 5 envelopes print-side down, with the short postage end facing the front.
  • Slide the paper-width guides snugly against the stack.
  • Push the tray in gently but firmly.

Option 3: Create a Custom Paper Size

If #10 envelope isn’t listed:

  1. Go to Printer Properties or Print Setup.
  2. Choose Custom Paper Size.
  3. Enter dimensions for #10 envelope:
  • Width: 4.125 inches
  • Height: 9.5 inches

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
