Hi @Katietoo,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the "Extraction failed. Cannot output file" error in HP Print and Scan Doctor typically occurs due to issues with permissions, corrupted downloads, or compatibility settings. Here's how you can resolve the issue:

Step 1: Download the Tool Again

  1. Visit the HP Print and Scan Doctor download page and re-download the latest version.
  2. Save the file to a location on your computer (e.g., Desktop), instead of running it directly from the browser.

Step 2: Run as Administrator

  1. Right-click the downloaded file (HPPSdr.exe).
  2. Select Run as administrator from the context menu.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts.

Step 3: Check Disk Space

Ensure your computer has sufficient disk space. If the disk is full, free up space by deleting unnecessary files.

Step 4: Temporarily Disable Antivirus or Firewall

Sometimes, security software blocks extraction processes:

  1. Temporarily disable your antivirus software.
  2. Disable the Windows Firewall:
    • Press Win + R, type control, and press Enter.
    • Go to System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall > Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.
    • Select Turn off Windows Defender Firewall for both private and public networks.

Step 5: Use Compatibility Mode

  1. Right-click the HPPSdr.exe file and select Properties.
  2. Navigate to the Compatibility tab.
  3. Check Run this program in compatibility mode for, then select Windows 8 or Windows 7.
  4. Click Apply and OK.
  5. Run the file again.

Step 6: Alternative Tool

If the issue persists, use the HP Smart app instead of the Print and Scan Doctor:

  1. Download and install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.
  2. Use the app to diagnose and resolve printer issues.

I hope this helps.
