Hi,
My HP ENVY 5646 appears to be on the same wi-fi as my computer but they don't find each other. The only way to print is connect via the wi-fi direct which is a pain as then I have no internet connection so I can't print what I need. I have to download what I need to print, change to direct wi-fi, print, then change back again if I want to access the internet.
It originally started playing up on my old Mac back in November which I believe was something to do with security certificates being pulled. I tried to follow various guides to sort it but nothing seemed to work. I hoped when I upgraded my computer to the new M1 then it would be okay but no joy. I have HP utility and HP Smart applications and HP Easy Start they all seem to find the printer but then say they can't connect. I could plod on flicking to wi-fi direct when I need my printer but this means my HP ink subscription isn't working. I have spent so many hours on this that I think I might be better buying a new printer but feel that isn't really environmentally friendly when there is nothing wrong with this printer and it does everything I want and I am happy with my ink subscription.
Be grateful for any ideas that aren't beyond my limited IT skills.
I can print from my Samsung phone fine but that isn't ideal as my laptop is my go to for my work.
Thank you.

@REM12, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand you are not able to print wirelessly from the Mac. Let us try these steps:
Update the printer firmware if possible
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Perform a ping test to check the connectivity
- Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
- Open a new Terminal window (it's located in Applications > Utilities, or you can just start typing it in Spotlight).
- Enter “ping” followed by the IP address of the printer.
- Press Return. Press ctrl C after 10 pings
- There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.
Let me know how it goes.
