My Mac computer was printing for 3 to 4 years I have 2 HP printers have tried both after the printer would NOT print any material. The Mac appears NOT to see any the material but shows the printer apparently waiting for software instructions, have tried reloading the printer drive states a few time still not able to use the printer BUT when i try any of the 2 printers they both react with NOT responding just  the normal small window that displays the printer trying to print??

@HammondG, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Sounds frustrating! 😕 Let's get your Mac and HP printers talking again properly. Here's a clear path you can try to get things working:

1. Check USB or Network Connection:
Make sure the printer is either firmly connected via USB or properly connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.

2. Restart Everything:
Turn off your Mac and both printers. Wait a minute, then power them all back on. This can help clear out small glitches.

3. Reset the Printing System (on your Mac):
Sometimes a fresh start helps:

Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners

Right-click (or Control-click) in the printers list and choose "Reset printing system..."

This will remove all printers – don’t worry, you’ll add them back next.

4. Re-add the Printer Manually:
After the reset:

Click the "+" button to add a printer.

Choose the correct printer from the list (look for it via USB or network).

Select "Use: HP [Your Model Name] driver" instead of "AirPrint" if available.

5. Check for HP Driver Updates:
Use HP Easy Start for Mac (you can download it from HP’s official site) to install the latest full driver set for your printer.

6. Try Printing a Test Page or PDF:
Use Preview or TextEdit to try printing a simple file. If it still says "Not Responding," let’s try one more:

7. Try a Different User Account:
Sometimes user profile settings get corrupted.

Create a new user on your Mac via System Settings > Users & Groups

Log into that account and try printing from there.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
