Hi, I've been trying for the past day to hard reset my printer but to no avail.
There's an admin password thats been set that I don't recall settings.
I've trying admin as the username and password and just admin as the username and no password but nothing.
I've tried three methods of reset. it puts the printer in a setup mode. I've tried on my phone with the app to do the setup, it says it failed. I tried on my macbook and it requests a password and username (why?!?!). I've tried with my windows computers and it says it failed.
Is their some sort of full reset I can do to get rid of this phantom admin details? cause I've tried resetting all possible ways.

Hello, @Lucky38i - Hope you are well 🙂
Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I'd like to help!
First off, there is no physical button to reset this printer model. Hence if you need to restore the printer you need to press and hold the Wireless button ( ) and the Cancel button (X) from the printer control panel together for three seconds. Once done, reconnect the printer to the network and check.
Also, did you try using a different browser to access the printer EWS? If not, try using a different browser and check.
If the issue persists, then as a workaround, try accessing the printer EWS using the Wi-Fi direct IP address. Wi-Fi Direct provides a direct wireless connection to your HP printer that allows you to print without joining a local network or connecting to the Internet.
-
Press the Information button
to print a report that includes the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
-
If the printer does not have an Information button, press and hold the Resume button
for 2 seconds to print a report that includes the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
-
Ideally, the HP Wi-Fi Direct IP address would be 192.168.223.1. Try to access the printer EWS using the same.
Let me know how that goes!
Cheers 🙂

Pressing the Wireless button and Cancell button does infact reset the printer but the admin password still remains SOMEHOW. For not I'm using the temporary solution of connecting to the wifi being broadcasted by the printer but I'd still like to solve this issue and get my printer connected to my local network

Hello, @Lucky38i
Connect the PC to the printer local network as suggested in my previous post.
Now, access the printer EWS by entering 192.168.223.1 on the browser address bar. Go to network tab and then select "wireless setup wizard".
Let me know how that goes!
Good luck 🙂

I had this problem after some trouble with my router. The pc could see the printer on the wifi, but could not communicate with it.
Nothing in this thread worked and when I tried to get to 192.168.223.1 - the browser timed out. In the end I used the cancel and wifi button and also the power +2 x black copy + 3 x cancel (just in case). I then reinstalled the darned thing by going back to the Get Started leaflet and visited 123.hp.com/dj3630.
I have to say that during twenty years as a systems manager and in the 19 years since I retired, I have set up a large number of HP deskjet printers, but I have never had as many problems as I have had with this baby .
However I'm running Windows 10 and nowhere on the documentation for the printer is it mentioned so maybe that's the problem.
