Hi @whoisbugs,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble registering your HP Envy 5660 printer and the drivers are not working as expected, follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check Printer Connections:
Power and Connections:
- Ensure the printer is powered on and properly connected to your computer via USB or is connected to your Wi-Fi network if you’re using wireless printing.
Network Status:
- If using Wi-Fi, ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your computer. Print a network configuration page from the printer’s menu to check its network status.
2. Uninstall Existing Printer Drivers:
Open Device Manager:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
Remove Existing Printer Drivers:
- Expand the “Printers” section and right-click on the HP Envy 5660 (or any related printer entries). Select Uninstall device and follow the prompts to remove the drivers.
Remove Software:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, find any HP printer software, and uninstall it.
3. Reboot Your Computer and Printer:
Restart Your Computer:
- Reboot your computer to clear any temporary issues that might be affecting the driver installation.
Restart Your Printer:
- Power off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then power it back on.
4. Download and Install the Correct Drivers:
Visit HP Support Website:
- Go to the HP Support website.
Search for Your Printer:
- Enter “HP Envy 5660” in the search bar and select your printer model from the list.
Download Drivers:
- Download the latest drivers for your operating system. Ensure you select the correct version for your OS (Windows, macOS, etc.).
Install Drivers:
- Run the downloaded driver installer and follow the on-screen instructions. Choose the appropriate connection type (USB or network) during installation.
5. Use HP Smart App for Setup:
Download HP Smart App:
- Download the HP Smart app from the HP Smart website or your device’s app store.
Set Up Printer:
- Open the HP Smart app and follow the prompts to add and set up your printer. This app often simplifies the setup process and helps with driver installation.
6. Add the Printer Manually:
Open Printers & Scanners:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
Add Printer:
- Click on Add a printer or scanner. Wait for Windows to search for available printers.
Select Your Printer:
- If the HP Envy 5660 appears, select it and follow the prompts to complete the installation. If it does not appear, you may need to use the The printer that I want isn’t listed option to manually add it.
7. Check for Windows Updates:
Open Windows Update:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
Check for Updates:
- Click Check for updates to ensure your system is up-to-date. Sometimes, driver issues can be resolved with the latest Windows updates.
8. Perform a Printer Reset:
Power Off and Unplug:
- Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds.
Power On and Reconnect:
- Plug the printer back in, power it on, and reconnect it to your computer or network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
