Hello My HP smart-tank 710-720 does not start printing with a command from the PC.
I always have to turn on the printer manually on the button, which is very impractical.
What do I need to set so that the printer will turn ON automatically?
Thanks

Use EWS to set the printer so it does not go to sleep
This explains how to use the EWS
Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

I am not sure what you mean.
From page 8 of user manual
If the light is completely off then it is powered down and must be turned on using the button.
If the light is dim it is just sleeping.

Did you recently update the firmware?
Was there a power surge?
If you cannot turn in on unless you unplug from the wall outlet, then there is a problem with the power on electronics.

Impossible 😕 As I understand it, HP doesn't even have an automatic power-on function when a print command is issued from a PC. My 10 year old canon, which is now retired, turned on by itself and no walk to the printer was necessary. If you print 3 times in 8 hours, you have to turn the thing on and off manually every time...how outdated is this technology?
What is the point of printing from a distance (phone) if you first have to go to the location of the printer and turn it on manually?
Do you perhaps know if the sleep function can be switched on non-stop and the heads do not dry out? The sleep function never turns off, so I prefer to turn off the printer with the OFF button.

Since this is a USB and Wi-Fi printer, there is no hardwired ethernet that the modem can send a keep alive signal to. I suspect the modem / router is not capable of waking the printer using Wi-Fi.
HP Smart is capable of waking a printer from sleep according to what I have read.
Configure your 720 so that you can print directly to it using Wi-Fi direct.
Make sure that sleep is enabled, set a reasonable time.
for Wi-Fi direct page 36 of User Manual
This is useful if you do not have access to the router or you want to bypass the router and print directly to the printer.
Or watch this video
full feature software April 2024
printer reference 720
Bring up HP Smart to wake up the printer. The system using HP Smart must be configured to print directly to the printer using Wi-Fi direct.
Verify that the printer is sleeping. The LED will be dim. If the LED is off then the printer must be turned on.
Not sure if necessary but you may need to reset the printer: instructions here

I am very grateful for your help. Ok.. I can research with the WIFI direct option and steal time from the good people up here. But the facts are as follows.
- The printer has the latest version of the program and works perfectly in all other functions.
- The Canon MG7150 was connected in exactly the same way (USB cable and home WIFI) and the PC turned it on with the print document command.
- I don't know how other printers of this level work, but that's the most logical way. If the printer is in another room or downstairs, you won't have to run there to turn it on manually every time... that's why we have WIFI!
- I admit... I didn't double-check before buying. The HP 710-720 doesn't have such a function explicitly explained in the instructions. There is no such description in the settings menu either.
- HP help or service have no answer that the printer works this way at all or they can't explain it. Now… after your explanations, I conclude that this function simply doesn't exist.
- There is a sleep function that works ok, but we don't know (it doesn't say anywhere) how long it can be turned on. In this function, the printer starts printing immediately (about 5 seconds) so the heads could dry out? The sleep function doesn't end after 2 hours but lasts nonstop.
So the question is now. Can the printer be in sleep mode nonstop or at least 10 working hours a day?
Funny, but I can't get this answer from HP help or HP service either?

I have no experience with the 720 series but I do have a small Canon photo printer that turns off after a while and I need to press the online button to turn it back on. My HP CM1415 is hardwired to the router and does not have that problem.
Access the printers embedded web page and set sleep to off or never or whatever you want.
Click here to see an example of turning off sleep.
I think the green movement has taken over a lot of technology and they want power to be turned off and HP and others have fallen into this trap.
I hope this is helpful.
